Intercontinental Short Track Invitational Returns to the Oval

Second Annual Event set for Thanksgiving Weekend on the Fastest Ice in the World
CALGARY, AB – The University of Calgary Olympic Oval is set to host the second annual Intercontinental Short Track Invitational on Thanksgiving weekend (October 7-9, 2016).  Short track athletes hailing from 11 countries will be represented including – Japan, China, Great Britain, Belgium, the USA, Singapore, France, Norway, Sweden, India and Canada.


This event will feature several Canadian Junior and National Development team skaters.  The Calgary group of skaters competing will be led by newly named Canadian National Development team member Keegan Christ.  Christ, a 22-year old native of Regina, Saskatchewan, placed third in this event last season behind Russia’s Danill Eibog and the 2015 Intercontinental Short Track Invitational Champion Jacob McKenzie.  Christ is one of six Oval skaters who were selected for the Calgary team for last year’s Invitational – including his returning teammates Kiel Hillis and Jesse Slusar.  Ian Smibert, Marco Schumann and Vincent Girard round out the Oval coached team in the Men’s division.

In the ladies division, Jamie Lee, Alison Desmarais and Marika Nadal return from last year’s selections and will be joined by Invitational “rookies” Hannah Clark, Olivia Scott and Cassidy Peterson.  

The alternates for the Calgary team include Calgary’s Abbey Young on the ladies side and Paul Coderre who will serve as the alternate for the men’s team.
