The Olympic Oval invites you to the Grand Prix / Canada Cup 4 at the University of Calgary.
March 10-12, 2023.
Competition Details
The Grand Prix is a primer competition for the Oval Finale. It has grown in participant size over the years as many athletes arrive in Calgary well in advance of the Oval Finale to set themselves up for a great finish to their season. This year, Canada Cup 4 will run simultaneously for Canadian athletes looking to qualify for the National Team and NextGen Team.
The Olympic Oval is utilizing the Sportity App for seamless and efficient communication during events. The app can be downloaded on the Apple Store or Google Play Store for free. Ensure your notifications are turned on to receive event communications in a timely manner. Each event has its own password. Grand Prix / Canada Cup 4 password is GPCC4.

Women must have the time standard from the 1500m or 3000m to be eligible to compete in the 3000m. Women with a standard in any distance are eligible to compete in the 500m, 1000m, and 1500m.
Men must have the time standard from the 1500m, 3000m, or 5000m to be eligible to compete in the 5000m. Men with a standard in any distance are eligible to compete in the 500m, 1000m, and 1500m.
In order for a result to be a valid Qualifying Time, it must have been achieved in ISU or SSC Events and National Championships, CC3, CC4, CC5) / July 1, 2022 (World Speed Skating Championships Skate-off) and the entry deadline for the Event. For the Mass Start and Team Events, any of the listed Qualifying Times will apply.
Inside times include all times achieved in a covered Oval. Outside times include all times achieved in an outdoor, uncovered Oval. The slower qualifying time (low land) applies for results achieved outside the high altitude Ovals in Calgary (Olympic Oval), Salt Lake City (Utah Olympic Oval) and Urumqi (Xinjiang Ice Sports Center).
General Regulations
The Grand Prix / Canada Cup 4 Speed Skating competition will be held in accordance with the 2022 International Skating Union Regulations and updates and is open to all skaters who belong to an ISU member country. It is listed on the International Skating Union Calendar and sanctioned by Speed Skating Canada and Speed Skating Alberta.
The Track
The Olympic Oval is a standard speed skating track of 400 meters to the lap. The refrigerated ice track has a 5 meter wide warmup lane. The radii of the inner and outer competition lanes are 26 and 30 meters respectively. The width of the racing track is 4 meters.
Entries
Any bonafide member of the International Skating Union may compete in the Grand Prix / Canada Cup 4 Competition, provided that the member is properly registered with the Olympic Oval approved by their member country.
Skaters must be Junior C2 or older to compete. Ie. Born before July 1, 2008.
Citizenship/Residence requirements and Clearance Procedure
In accordance with Rule 109 of the ISU Regulations and ISU Communication No. 2030, all skaters who do not have the nationality of the Member by which they have been entered or who, although having such nationality, have in the past represented another Member, must produce an ISU Clearance Certificate.
Composition and the Starting Order of Pairs
The draw is conducted under the current SSC rules and ISU rules where applicable. The Coaches Meeting will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, March 9, 2023. The Pairings for Day One will be available at this time.
Liability
In accordance with ISU Rule 119; the International Skating Union, Speed Skating Canada, Speed Skating Alberta, the Olympic Oval, and the University of Calgary assume no responsibility for, or liability with respect to bodily or personal injury or loss of property or damage incurred in connection with the 2022 Grand Prix / Canada Cup 4 Speed Skating Competition. Each Skater is solely responsible for providing insurance coverage thereto.
Transportation
Each skater is responsible for his/her own transportation.

Entry Fees
The entry fee is $110.00 CDN (includes GST)
Late Fee: Double entry fee after the Entry Deadline.

Olympic Oval Waiver Form
Skaters in their first competition of the season in the Olympic Oval must fill out the Waiver Form.
All Skaters will be charged for their ice training prior to the competition with the exception of the day prior to the competition where training is free of charge.
