13 Athletes awarded Intact Insurance Olympic Oval Athlete Bursaries
Calgary, AB – The Calgary Olympic Oval is very proud to announce the names of the 13 athletes awarded Intact Insurance Olympic Oval Athlete Bursaries for the 2017-18 season. Congratulations go out to Sam Deckert (Winnipeg, MB), Vincent Girard (Ville de Saguenay, QC), Jacob Graham (Dawson Creek, BC), Carolina Hiller (Prince George, BC), Jonah Hurtubise (Aylmer, QC), Keil Hillis (Calgary, AB), Kaylin Irvine (Calgary, AB), Jamie Lee (Fort St.John, BC), Josie Morrison (Kamloops, BC), Keri Morrison (Burlington, ON), Matej Pederson (Calgary, AB), Jake Weidemann (Ottawa, ON) and Brendan Yamada (Calgary, AB).
Kaylin Irvine, Josie Morrison and Keri Morrison most recently competed for Canada at the 2018 Olympic games in PyeongChang, South Korea.
"Receiving this bursary really made me believe in myself, just getting the support made me really see that there were others supporting and believing in me and that belief means a lot." said Josie Morrison "It also inspires me and makes me want to give back to the sport and try to have a positive impact on others lives too."

This season, we have a wide range of athletes from junior champions to Olympians which speaks to the needs of this type of support in all levels of the sport.”
The Oval would like to thank all of the 2017-18 supporters of the Intact Insurance Olympic Oval Athlete Bursary fund including Intact Insurance & Nick's Steakhouse.
The Intact Oval Bursary fund was created by Olympic Oval Liaison Catriona Le May Doan to help alleviate some of the financial strains put on Canadian high performance athletes. The fund supports deserving locally trained athletes in a variety of ways – helping to pay for competition travel, training, equipment, clothes, rent and food.
Since its inception in 2005, the Intact Oval Bursary Fund has supported over 100 athletes with over $141,000 in support of their quest for excellence in the sports of speed skating, cycling and female hockey.
Other notable past recipients of Intact Oval bursaries include current and former Canadian National team long and short track athletes, such as, 2018 Olympians Ben Donnelly, Heather McLean and Isabelle Weidemann, Olympic medalist Marie Eve Drolet and 3-time Olympian Brittany Schussler.
