2019 Oval Finale / Canada Cup 4

This annual Oval competition marked the wrap up to 18-19 long track season. This year's field included 294 skaters from 19 different countries including Canada. Check out all the information, links to must watch races and results.

2019 Canadian Selections Day 3 Recap

The third and final day of the 2019 Canadian Selections saw plenty of action with both 500m (2) and 1000m (2) races.  For most, including several #OvalFamily these races were the final of the 2018-19 season.

2019 Canadian Selections Day 2 Recap

It was another strong showing for several former and current Oval athletes on Day 2 including Ontario’s Maggie Beynon. Beynon skated to fourth in the A Final of the 1000m.  This combined with her Day 1 results placed her 8th in the overall standings with another set of 500m & 1000m races still to come.  Joining Beynon in the Top 10 are a pair of Oval Program Athletes now training in Montreal, Geneve Belanger and Ali Desmarais who currently rank third and 10th overall respectively.

2019 Canadian Selections Day 1 Recap

The 2019 Canadian Selections got off to a great start on the Olympic Oval North rink.  The highlight of the day for the Oval Program athletes came in the form of Ethan McKinley-Young skating to a third place finish in the MNS 1500m event.

Breakaway Season

Oval program athlete Cezara Bere has already had a spectacular season. She signed on full time in the Oval program, competed at Canadian Jr. Short Track Championships, had a great showing at the Canadian Open National Qualifier and medaled for Team Alberta at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer. She’ll suit up next, this weekend as she qualified for the 2019 Canadian Selections at the Oval as a junior.  

Not bad for a 14 year old.

2018-19 Oval Bursary Recipients

The Calgary Olympic Oval is very proud to announce the names of the 13 athletes awarded Olympic Oval Bursaries for the 2018-19 season.  Congratulations go out to long track skaters; Max Brant (ON), Paul Coderre (AB), Graeme Fish (SK), Sierra Johnson (ON), Matt Laxton (ON), Abigail McCluskey (BC), Jake Weidemann (ON) and Taylor White (ON). On the short track, congrats to: Roger Fulton (NB), Caitlyn Pelkey (AB), Matej Pederson (AB), Hee Won Son (AB) and Brendan Yamada (AB).

Yamada, Pederson & Pelkey to Skate for Canada

A trio of Oval skaters booked their first tickets to international competition in Europe at the Short Track Canadian Championships.  Brendan Yamada and Matej Pederson made the trip over the Atlantic as part of the Canadian contingent attending the International Invitation Cup in Heerenveen, NED October 13-14.  The following week they were joined by Caitlyn Pelkey as all three competed in the 27th Alta Valtellina Trophy in Bormio, Italy Oct 19-21.

EVO Western Elite Circuit #1

Calgary, AB (9/30/18) - The Olympic Oval wrapped up the first leg of the 2018 EVO Western Elite Circuit on September 30th in Calgary. A furious weekend of racing saw the 500m, 1000 and 1500m distances skated, points collected by the skaters in the two age categories from this weekend will be totaled along with any points attained in the EVO WEC Finals (Winterfest) in February to find the EVO WEC Champions.
