Macdonald leads Canadian sweep of ladies event; McKenzie & Christ podium
The Intercontinental Short Track Invitational came to a close on Sunday at the University of Calgary Olympic Oval.  A pair of Canadians – Jamie Macdonald and Jacob McKenzie took home the crowns as the inaugural event champions.  Macdonald ended her weekend with 5359 points with wins in Friday’s 1500m & 500m races, Saturday’s 1000m and Sunday’s 500m & 1000m. McKenzie battled through a strong challenge from Russian Danill Eibog on Sunday to claim the mens title.  The Oval coached McKenzie scored wins in Friday’s 1500m and 500m races, Saturday’s 1000m and Sunday’s 1000m.

Eibog, won the 500m mens event early Sunday to close the gap on the leaders but McKenzie’s 1000m win sealed the victory for the native of London, Ontario.  Joining them on the podium was McKenzie’s teammate Keegan Christ.  Christ, who hails from Regina, Saskatchewan posted solid numbers all weekend to edge out Alexander Shulginov of Russia by just 24 points in the final standings.

Both Macdonald and Mckenzie led the weekend’s overall standings from start to finish. Macdonald is a Canadian national development team member who was recently selected to skate for Canada at the upcoming Fall World Cup races set for Montreal (Oct. 30-Nov.1) and Toronto (Nov. 6-8).  She led an all-Canadian podium for the ladies event that included her national development teammates Keri Morrison and Courtney Shmyr.
