Oval Long Track Athletes

I started speed skating when I was six years old and loved it immediately! That was short track at the Saint John and Hampton speed skating clubs. When I was eleven, I tried long track for the first time in Halifax (outdoors). It snowed like crazy that weekend, but my parents just about had to drag me off the ice at the end nonetheless. Summer of 2023, I dropped into the short track Oval Program and AB Hub long track for a couple weeks and knew this was what I wanted to do. I begrudgingly left at the end of the summer. August 2025 I returned to do AB Hub LT and try to get into the Oval program- and I succeeded! Outside of skating, I love crocheting, reading, and listening to music. I have my eyes set on going into biology in university at UofC.

I’ve been speed skating for 9 years, and this is my second year with the Oval Program. I love going fast but not too fast. I still can't quite turn right (working on it), and deep down, I always thought I was meant to be a race car driver. Too bad my parents didn’t agree. When I’m not skating, you might find me climbing trees, enjoying great food, or trying to keep up with my amazing older brother who sets a pretty high bar.

Erin Jackson

Smith has been skating for eight years. Her home club is Port Coquitlam Lightning, where she trained in short track until she moved to Calgary to start university and join the oval program for long track two years ago. She prefers longer distances over the shorter ones, and her favourite training happens on ice, of course, as well as on the bike. 

Her favourite achievement from last season was her 3000m time, where she crushed her personal best by 6 seconds to 4:33.38!

Smart skates long track focuses on the 500m, 1,000m, and 1,500m. 

I've been a speed skater my whole life and love the sport, I try everyday to improve and try to give back to the sport through coaching the next generation of skaters. This is my first year living in Calgary doing the full time Oval Program and I hope to have a good experience.

Peacock skates with the Olympic Oval Long Track Elite Pathway Program, specializing in the short distances. This season alone he has broken all of his personal bests.

Jardim is one of Elite Pathway Program's international skaters from Spain! He focuses on the short distances and has broken every personal best this season! 

Champagne grew up training in Cambridge, Ontario as a short track speed skater. After moving to Calgary, he decided to try long track and hasn’t looked back! He is currently pursuing a degree in Geology at the University of Calgary.

Ernie Overland

Williams skates with the Oval program; he focuses on the sprinting distances. This season, he has broken all of his personal bests! 

Mason focuses on short distances and has broken all of his personal bests this season! 

Berthelot skates with the Olympic Oval Elite Pathway program, and he focuses on the sprint distances! 

Angelozzi skates with the Oval Program; he focuses on sprinting. This season, he has broken all of his personal bests and competed at the Junior Championships, where he placed third in the 500m and Team Pursuit. 

Kulbacki skates within the Oval program; he focuses on the short to mid-distances. He competed at the Junior Championships and earned a gold medal in the Team Pursuit and placed sixth overall. This season he has broken all of his personal bests! 

McPeek has been speed skating for seven years, specializing in long-distance events and mass start races. He started skating when he was 14 and now trains at the Olympic Oval in Calgary. One of his proudest moments was realizing that my dream of moving to Calgary to pursue speed skating was becoming a reality. He is focused on continuing his development in the sport with the long-term goal of earning a spot on the national team.

North skates with the Oval Program; her focus is on the mid-long distances. This season she has broken almost all of her personal bests! 

Major skates with the Olympic Oval Elite Pathway Program. Major has been on fire by breaking her personal bests throughout the season! She also competed at the Junior Championship, earning a silver medal in the Team Pursuit! 

Bee is a long track speed skater that has lived in various cities Regina, Ottawa, and Netherlands before moving to Calgary to become a sprinter with the Elite Pathway Program.

Durham is from Ottawa, Ontario, and started skating at the age of 8. She has been competing with the Gloucester Concords for the past 10 years. She will be starting her first year at the University of Calgary, majoring in Community Rehabilitation and Disabilities Studies. When she’s not skating or studying, she enjoys experimenting in the kitchen with new recipes or relaxing with friends.

Daria is in her 15th year as a speed skater and her fourth year in the Elite Pathway Program. She is studying exercise and health physiology at the University of Calgary. We are excited to see where this season takes her! 

Matej has transitioned over from Short Track to Long Track over the last few years and is constantly proving to himself of what he is capable of! Off the ice he is studying computer science, listening to music or repairing roofs.

Robyn moved to Calgary back in 2022 to pursue long track with the Elite Pathway Program!  

Aoife has been speed skating for around 10 years. Growing up, she was involved in a variety of sports including volleyball, track and field, soccer, and more. Aoife always loved being in a competitive sports environment and thrives on the energy of training and being surrounded by motivated, like-minded athletes.

Alex is from Georgetown, Ontario. He started short track speed skating at eight years old after playing hockey then switched to long track after moving to Calgary and training with the Elite Athlete Program. Last year, he took a huge leap when he skated the the World Junior Championships last season in Collalbo Italy!

Dallaire has been skating since she was 13 years old and now skates for the Oval program! 

Matthew is going on to his fourth season with Elite Pathway Program. He is taking his Bachelors of Science in Plant Biology at the University of Calgary. He is looking forward to what this season has in store for him!

McKague is a long-track speed skater through the Olympic Oval Elite Pathway program. This season, he has focused on the 500m, 1,000m, and 1,500m. This season, McKague broke all of this personal bests!

The 2025-26 season will be his fourth as an oval program athlete, having spent two years with both short and long track respectively. Off the ice, I enjoy cycling, skiing, and playing guitar

Former Inline skater turned speed skater, currently heading into his third year of training at the Olympic Oval. He is also pursuing an undergraduate degree at the University of Calgary.

Fast Start

Adelman has been skating for 10 years and started skating in Lethbridge with LSSA. He joined the Oval in 2023 and is excited to train in Calgary.

Pauli is in his 13th season of speed skating and is a middle-distance skater.

Victoria Goplen

Born in Portage La Prairie Manitoba, Joel grew up playing a variety of sports including soccer, hockey, volleyball and basketball. He fully transitioned into Speedskating at the age of 14. He is currently part of Central Speedskating and skates full time in The Oval Program located in Calgary Alberta, Canada. Joel specializes in the 1500m and 5000m.

Patrick Roest

Langstrom started speedskating at 17 after being introduced to the sport through RBC Training Ground.

Mallard is a long distance skater from Ottawa, Ontario, and has been skating for 14 years. She has spent the last three years training in Calgary. During her time with the Oval, she has also been studying neuroscience at the University of Calgary. She is really looking forward to what is to come in the new season.

de Vlieg skates with the Oval Program, she likes to red, colour and cycle. 

Lueders is entering her 14th year of skating and continues to have a strong passion for the sport. As she begins her third year at the University of Calgary, she is looking forward to what the year has to offer.

Christine Nesbitt

Goplen is in her 6th season at the Olympic Oval in the elite athlete pathway. Her favourite distance is the 1000m. When shes not skating, her favourite low-impact sport is pilates.

Prpich has been skating for 14 years and grew up training in both long track and short track before transitioning to full-time long track 2 years ago. This is her fourth year in the Oval Program, and is really excited for the upcoming season.

Waters is a hard-working skater, and his mission is: work hard, train hard, outwork, outperform. Train while they rest and win while they lose.

Lowe is entering his fifth season training at the Oval. He is a mid- and long-distance skater. At the University of Calgary, he is studying political science. In his free time, he enjoys music, drawing, and going on hikes. This season, he hopes to improve his personal bests and have fun.

Chen is from Chinese Taipei, currently in her third year of long track speed skating. She was originally an inline skater and has won multiple medals at World Championships. This year, she is aiming to qualify for the Winter Olympics and hopes to deliver a performance that will impress everyone! ... Update: she absolutely did that!

Hanson was inspired to skate by the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. He is in his fourth year as part of the Oval Program.

Mat Fraser

Started Speed skating back in 2020 through RBC Training Grounds. He previously played Junior A hockey before making the switch. His goal is to make it to the next Winter Olympics in Italy.

Multiple Canada Cup medals in the 500m and 1000m distances.

Chris Holmstead

Tai is a speed skater from Taiwan. He competed at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games after only training for one year. He continues to try to make the Olympics! 

Roth is a Calgary-based long track speed skating 500m/1000m specialist training under Kevin Crockett in the Olympic Oval Program. He is a 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic hopeful, and an economics major at the University of Calgary.

Represented Canada at the 2023 World Championships in Heerenveen. Placed Top-3 in B-Group at the Poland World Cup in 2023.

Kulbacki is an Engineering student who loves to fish and enjoys throwing a disc.

Doan is a generation vietnamese Canadian speed skater in his family.
