Operations

Operations was able to work on several maintenance projects throughout the year including a significant compressor replacement project.

Building Heating Upgrade

The Olympic Oval’s heating system received a major upgrade this year. The original 1987 shell and tube heat exchangers were replaced with new plate and frame heat exchangers. These new units have increased efficiency and will continue to provide heating for the Ovals continued future.

Glazing Upgrade

All original 768 exterior bay windowpanes were replaced with new efficient glass with low e coating. This has greatly improved the building envelope insulation and ability to let in natural light to the Oval’s event floor.

Refrigeration Maintenance

Our plate and frame heat exchangers used for keeping the ice cold required major service work this year. This was undertaken and immediately improvements were shown in the temperature and quality of our ice. This work also improved energy consumption.

Industry Experience

Multiple staff undertook industry specific training to increase their ice making knowledge.

Key Community Events

Community events took centre stage with Ice-Out, public skating, and new hits like the 2024 Alley-oop Basketball Tournament, drawing 10,000+ guests. Family Day welcomed nearly 3,000, while Pride Skate, Halloween, the Holiday Market & Skate, and Skate with Santa drew thousands more. We also launched the Jayman Built Monday Night Toonie Skate, bringing in a new sponsor and more weekly fun.
